We’ll discuss this in class very soon, but it’s time to start thinking about your final project. I haven’t come up with hard-and-fast guidelines yet — I am going to ask for a shorter story but more multimedia than I have in previous classes. But there’s nothing to stop you from coming up with a story idea now.
Essentially I want you to profile a person or project that combines journalism and new media in ways that you find interesting. It does not have to be related to your beat, although it could be. Any of the projects you’ve discussed in your presentations would make a fine topic. But if your project is not based locally, you’re going to have to be creative about the multimedia aspects.
I have a lot of ideas, and will be happy to share them with you if you’re stumped.
Here are the key dates:
- March 22: Post to your blog a description of your final-project idea and how you intend to carry it out
- April 16: Deadline for your project
- April 21: Assessment, edits and suggestions
- Finals week (date to be determined): Final version due
